If you keep up with my blog posts, you may have noticed the recurrence of the term “LAS.” If you’re wondering what LAS is exactly, you’ve come to the right place.
LAS, or the Leader Advancement Scholarship, is awarded to approximately 40 future Central Michigan University freshmen every year. With ~2,000 applicants for every cohort, this scholarship is highly competitive. LAS seeks to recognize student leaders’ outstanding achievements within their communities while harnessing and enhancing their talents. The only academic requirement for this scholarship is that one must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0. This was designed to make LAS more focused on how one has served and contributed to their community, rather than just looking at it from an academic standpoint.
I am so grateful for the opportunities LAS has already provided me with. I now have an amazing support system at CMU and a place I can go to when I need guidance. The Leadership Institute is full of inspiring and driven people that I am honored to work with. I can’t wait to see how my cohort and I develop as the years progress.
